Donating Books to the Friends


Thank you for your interest in donating books to the Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library. Unfortunately, because the library remains closed at this time, we cannot accept book or other media donations from the general public. We are currently accepting limited donations from members only. If you are a member and would like to schedule a donation pick-up or drop-off, please email director Rachel Pastiva at


PLEASE NOTE: Even though the library is scheduled to reopen in mid-July, the Friends will not be accepting donations from the public until the end of August. The date will be posted here in early August.



Accepted Items (all items must be in good condition)

Recent* fiction, history, political and social sciences, biography, memoir, cookbooks, psychology, self-help, nature, humor, sciences, performing arts

Children's books

Classics and collectibles

Books on gardening, crafts, home repair and improvement, art, architecture, animals, pets, poetry, philosophy

Complete audiobooks on CD with no or few scratches

Complete puzzles and board games

DVDs and CDs with no or few scratches

*published in the past 15 years

Rejected Items

Water damaged or moldy books

Books with ripped or missing pages or covers

Books with broken spines or loose pages

Books with outdated information

Hardcovers without dust jackets

Incomplete puzzles and board games

Scratched or missing DVDs and CDs

VHS and cassettes
